Girls Varsity Soccer · Girls Soccer drops a close one to Washington


Clay hosted NIC rival Washington at Clay Field Wednesday night. Washington got off to a 1-0 lead in the first half. Junior Samantha Zahl broke free and got the Colonials on the board with the first goal of her career. Minutes later, Kalaih Damp popped a goal into the back of the net to give the Colonials a halftime lead of 2-1. Washington came back to score 3 unanswered goals in the second half to win the match 4-2. Senior goalie Kayla Sanchez had 24 saves in the goal including blocking her second penalty kick of the season. Seniors Zoe Wilkeson and Autumn Wrobel played a hard-fought game, representing the true spirit of the game. The Colonials are now 0-5 (0-3 NIC). They are away next week at Bremen on Tuesday.
